True bespoke joinery combines craftmanship with modern manufacturing techniques to achieve a perfect balance of style and function with performance options such as fire resistance, sound reduction and security via steel reinforced panels.
Fire Resistance
The Longden range of fire doors is designed to comply with Building Regulations Approved Document B Fire Safety. This document outlines situations where fire doors are required, the level of fire resistance needed, and how to ensure their performance.
Longden fire doors offer several benefits:
Independent Certification:
They are UKAS accredited, meaning independent experts verify they meet fire resistance standards.
Reliable Performance:
Regular audits ensure consistent quality and functionality during installation.
Historic Property Protection:
Fire doors provide a crucial barrier, safeguarding valuable historic structures without sprinkler damage.
Sound Reduction
Unwanted noise can disrupt the enjoyment of historic buildings. Longden Doors provide solutions to improve soundproofing without sacrificing historical charm. Traditional doors and frames often struggle to block sound, especially if they’re damaged. Any gaps between the door and frame act like leaks, letting noise in.
Current building regulations only focus on soundproofing in new and converted residential buildings (Part E). These regulations require specific soundproofing levels for doors between hallways and individual flats. However, there are no set standards for entrance doors facing the outside world.
Longden doors can achieve excellent sound reduction ratings (RwdB) without compromising the historical look of your building. Our doors with acoustic seals can reach 30 RwdB, and specialised panels can go even higher (up to 37 RwdB). See the table below for details. Double doors offer even more noise reduction, although there might be a slight decrease in performance compared to single doors.
Longden fire doors effectively balance safety regulations with the unique needs of historic buildings.

The above acoustic ratings are for guidance purposes, elements such as floors, ceilings, walls ventilation grills and windows can have an adverse effect upon the acoustic performance.

The following provides general guidance on acoustic privacy in relation to sound reduction:
25RwdB Normal speech easily overheard
30RwdB Loud speech clearly overheard
35RwdB Loud speech can be distinguished
40RwdB Loud speech heard but not intelligible
45RwdB Loud speech heard faintly
50RwdB Loud and shouting speech can be heard with difficulty
The
following provides general guidance on acoustic privacy in relation to sound reduction:
25 RwdB (Normal speech easily overheard):
At this level, you would hear almost everything from the other side of the door. This includes conversations, phone calls and even TV audio.
30 RwdB (Loud speech clearly overheard):
Conversations in a normal voice will be clearly audible, along with some louder noises like raised voices, laughter, or music.
35 RwdB (Loud speech can be distinguished):
You would be able to make out the gist of loud conversations from the other side, but it would be difficult to understand individual words. You might also hear some banging or slamming doors.
40 RwdB (Loud speech heard but not intelligible):
A loud conversation can be heard but would be muffled you wouldn’t be able to hear individual words.

Please note: The use of drop seals will lower the acoustic performance for both single leaves and pairs.
Whether you require fire certification to the principal areas, sound reduction for doors to the cinema room or if you require steel reinforced doors to panic rooms or wine cellars then Longden can combine its craftsmanship with modern manufacturing techniques to achieve a perfect balance of style and function.
