The 2010 Equality Act requires all new and refurbished public buildings and workplaces comply with regulations to ensure safe entry, exit and passage throughout the building.
Light Reflectance Value (LRV) is a measure as a percentage of visible and useable light that is reflected from a surface when illuminated by a light source. Zero is complete darkness with all light/heat absorbed. 100 is pure white and reflects all light.
LRV should be at least 30 points between door face and any adjacent frame or wall.
While for ironmongery fittings the difference should be at least 15 points.

This should only be used as a reference. A number of factors such as veneers and flooring can darken or lighten over time. Other finishes can also affect the LRV.
