Handling

Doors, frames or doorsets are finished, high quality products which can be heavy and difficult to move around a busy site. Please unload and handle them carefully to avoid damage.

Handling & Storage | Longden Doors

Stacking

Products should be stacked flat on a minimum of 3 level bearers. Never leave doors and doorsets in stacks higher than 1 metre.

Storage

Products must be stored inside with packaging on, where it is dry and well ventilated and away from heaters or fires. If possible, store doors in the area where they are to be installed.

Timing

Generally, doors, frames and doorsets are “late second fix” items. Before removing the packaging or starting installation, make sure that wet trades, such as plastering, have been finished and, in cold weather, that heating has been operational for at least 2 weeks.

To ensure a smooth installation and protect your product warranty, please follow these guidelines for handling, storing, finishing, and installing your bespoke joinery products and timber doorsets.

To minimise the risk of damage and ensure your doors look and function their best, we follow British Standard BS 8000 Part 5: 1990 for storage guidelines. This includes things like keeping the doors in a dry, well-ventilated space to prevent warping or cracking.

To keep your doors looking their best and functioning properly, follow these storage tips:

01

Keep them cool and dry

Avoid unpacking them in extreme temperatures or humidity. Leave the packaging on until installation.

02

Lay them flat, not on edge

Find a dry, well-ventilated space to store them.

03

Use proper support

Stack them on at least three level supports spaced evenly along the length of the door.

04

Avoid dampness

Never store them in rooms with high moisture, like freshly plastered areas.

Installation of doorsets should be in accordance with the guidelines within of BS 8000 Part 5 : 1990. This ensures your doors are installed securely and function correctly.

01

Make sure the space is dry

The area where you’ll hang the doors, especially freshly plastered rooms, should be completely dry to avoid moisture damage.

02

Follow fire door instructions

Installation instructions for fire doors are included on the door itself. Important: Do not cut the doorway on-site, as this will void the fire rating of the door.

A properly installed door frame offers two key benefits

01

Fire safety

Following our installation guidelines ensures the frame maintains its strength during a fire, maximising safety.

02

Long-lasting beauty

Proper installation helps prevent warping (twist, bow, cupping) caused by humidity changes and natural movement of the wood. Our guidelines provide detailed instructions and diagrams to achieve this.
