Generations of tradition and craftsmanship breathe life into every Longden door. For almost 200 years, Longden Doors has provided unparalleled expertise in creating exquisite doorsets that grace prestigious locations throughout the UK.

Established in 1838, Longden Doors boasts a rich heritage deeply rooted in British craftsmanship. Our story began with John Longden, who founded John Longden & Sons as a small-scale builder, largely servicing Sheffield’s steel industry. His son, George Longden, honed his skills as a stone mason and together they established a building and contracting business on St. Phillip’s Road.

George Longden’s son, James Longden (1847-1907), played a pivotal role in the company’s growth.

After taking over the business in 1884, James led the construction of some of Sheffield’s most iconic buildings, including the Sheffield City Hall, Town Hall extensions, and the Sheffield Cathedral extensions.

The Longden family’s influence extends beyond construction. James’ contemporary, Ann Eliza Longden (1869-1952) was a remarkable woman who shattered glass ceilings. She became the first woman Lord Mayor of Sheffield in 1936, paving the way for future generations of female leaders.

George Longden and Son relocated to Park Wood Road at Neepsend and by the end of the nineteenth century, had grown into one of the best known building firms in the country. In 1978, the company’s focus shifted to a new passion: creating exquisite, handcrafted solid timber doors. This marked the beginning of an enduring legacy in bespoke joinery.

Today, Longden Doors seamlessly blends time-honoured techniques with modern advancements. Our expert artisans, possessing a wealth of knowledge inherited through generations, meticulously craft each door to the highest standards. This dedication to detail ensures that every Longden door is not only a functional masterpiece but also a unique work of art.

Longden doors stand as a testament to the enduring quality and timeless elegance that the company embodies. Gracing prestigious locations throughout the country, from historic listed buildings to premium residences, our doors have found their home in renowned locations such as Kensington Palace, Windsor Castle, and 10 Downing Street.
